There has recently been a sudden explosion of interest in the artistic yet technological hobby of photography. While lots of people enjoy the idea of photography, few really take the time to learn about it. Here are some tips to get you going in photography.
Try different shutter speeds for finding what works for various situations. Photography lets you capture a single moment or show motion over time by adjusting shutter speed. Traditionally, fast shutter speed is used for motion while a slower speed is used for still scenes.
When the sun is shining bright, and there is not a cloud in the sky, many people think it is the perfect setting for outdoor photographs. They couldn’t be more wrong! If you take any photos in direct sunlight, you are sure to ruin your images. It causes awkward shadows, uneven highlights, and may cause your subject to squint when they face your camera. If you want to take photographs outdoors, it’s far better to do so just before sunrise or near sunset so that the sun’s light won’t interfere with your photograph.
Keep your arms close to your sides when you are holding the camera, and hold on to the bottom of your camera. This will minimize shaking and produce clearer shots. You can also keep your camera from slipping out of your hands by holding it from the bottom, rather than the top.
Framing is a very important aspect of composing a good photo. Make sure to zoom in on the focus of the picture, and keep distracting elements out of the picture. Your subject should fill the frame to add the most impact to your photo, avoiding clutter.
Try taking photos of people. Make sure you always ask if it is okay before you proceed. The pictures can become great memories of the places you’ve been or people you’ve seen. They will make excellent companions during a travel and can transport you to a unique moment preserved in time. Candid expressions and casual clothing will help make your pictures even more memorable.
To take more unique pictures, try using limitation. For instance, tell yourself that you will only take pictures that revolve around a particular concept. Try to shoot 100 different photographs from the same point or within the same room. Working under such limitations will spur you to think creatively and take more experimental photos.
Photography is a hobby many people would like to take up. Unfortunately, many people are convinced that mastering photography skills is an impossible goal.
